Water temp = 49 degrees, main lake lightly stained, river arms moderately stained.
Fishing pressure remains light, but the fishing is really picking up. I have had three or four guiding trips the last 7 days with excellent results --near limits of Walleye with a few Whites and even a Crappie. I expect the bite to continue for at least the next few weeks. Typically when our water temp hits 40 degrees, the bite slows way down. The next 10 days our winds are fore casted to be less than 10 MPH---so plan a fishing trip before the holidays and enjoy catching some fish.
Walleye--Good to Excellent-- Some days it seems that they want to jump into the boat, then some days you have to work for them, but you should be able to catch limits to near limits of them. I have been catching 90% of the Walleye in 40 feet of water near the main channel using minnows. Blades and slabs are also working, but there are days when it seems they only want to eat the real McCoy.
White bass--Good to Excellent--More Whites are being caught near Horse Shoe bend than any where else on the lake. Fish 30-40 feet with blades or slabs to catch them. White continues to be the choice of color
Channel catfish--Good--A few are being caught while fishing for the Walleye and Whites. However, stink baits and chicken liver is also catching quite a few in 6-15 feet of water near the reeds.
Crappie--Poor--We caught 1 at 40 feet down on a minnow.
Large and Small mouth---No reports, but we do get one once in a while in 40 feet of water.
I will be up in Iowa over X-mas and early Jan.----Whitetail and pheasant hunting along with some ice fishing. I will be available for guiding trips up until Dec. 21st.
FISH-ON!!!!
