Sept. 29th,2009

A mature cow Elk taken a week ago during a muzzle loading hunt near Crested Butte Co. with my son Luke and brothers Jamie from Wi. and Steve from Ia.(not pictured)
A stringer full of 5 lb Channel cats caught 9/28/09 on Sonny's sticky stink bait by Johnny Latham from Logan and his son Mark from Hereford, Tx. They caught their limit of 30 cats in 6 hours in 5-6 feet of water.

Sept.29th, 2009 Water temp 68 degrees
I have been out of the state on a Elk hunt the last few weeks which has prevented me to up-date the fishing report. I'm back now, but I personally have not fished the lake in over three weeks. Except for what I'm calling an exceptional cat fish bite going on right now (I saw the fish), the rest of the report will be fictitious.
Walleye --- 7-9 pounders being caught on about anything anywhere. I have not heard of any smaller fish being caught.
Bass ---Large & Small mouth are pounding white crank baits in 30 feet of water which is very uncommon. Again, large fish are the rule usually around 5-6 pounds and limits are the rule.
Crappie --- They have finally turned on. They are only about 5 months late from their regular bite. 14-16 inch fish near the brush in 8 feet of water. Now is not the time to try and get them ---your arms will get tired of catching them.
White bass --- 3-4 pounders are hammering slabs in 20-30 feet of water. Find a place where there are no other fisherman and start ripping into them.
O.K. O.K. Back to the real thing. The following report will be real, but based on 2nd hand knowledge from my customers in the store the last few days.
Walleye -- Minnows 20-30 feet deep near the channel will produce some. Do not expect limits, trolling over brush in 14-18 feet of water is also still producing fish. I have heard of 3-4 limits taken this way the last 3 days.
Bass --Smallies in 10 feet of water in the flats around the lake. Minnows and/crawlers are working the best. Fishing pressure has been light --not much else to report on the bass.
Catfish -- Limits in 5 feet of water using Sonny's sticky stink bait. Thats about all I can say about them. If I told you where my friend Johnny Latham would kill me.
White Bass -- sounds like white slabs are the ticket and 30 foot of water is where they are. I here that many smaller ones are being caught, but if you stay at it, the bigger ones will appear.
LOGAN OPEN this WEEKEND!!!!!!! The biggest bass tourney in New Mexico.

Sept.4th,2009

Peter Sr. and Peter Jr. from Colorado with Walleye caught 8/28/09.
Water temp = 76 degrees, main lake clear with stained river arms.
The fishing is remaining pretty good for all species of fish. My last guiding trip put 6 keeper Walleye in the boat along with 3-4 that were short. All fish were caught trolling in 12-20 feet over thick brush.
Walleye ----Limits are hard to come by, but 4-5 hours of fishing should put quite a few in the live well. Minnows on the bottom in 20 feet of water near the channel edges or try trolling over brush with Wally Divers and Reef Runners.
White Bass ----Slabbing in 30 foot of water around Horseshoe will produce large quantities of fish. Find the schools and you are in for some fun. Use white colored slabs for best results.
Catfish----Sonny's stink bait will produce around 10-15 cats in 5 hours of fishing in 4-10 feet of water near brush.
Small mouth---Work the rocky points with shallow running cranks or spinner baits and you should come up with quite a few. Go to drop shotting a little deeper as the day goes on.
Large mouth --- Spinner baits early in 2-4 feet of water near the tulle's. Move out to 10-14 feet of water on the flats and find some brush / grass and work it slow with some jigs.
Have a safe holiday weekend!!!!!!
