August 26th,2009

Bob and son from Texas with a couple of 4 pound Channel cats along with 3 Walleye taken 8/19/09.
Water temp = 75 degrees, main lake clear with the river arms stained.
The fishing at Ute Lake continues to be pretty good, but there are some days that are quite slow. I suggest hitting the water at sunrise for the most consistent bite.
Walleye---the fish are starting to hit slabs fished in 20-30 feet of water. Trolling will still catch a couple, but white colored slabs are producing more fish lately.
White bass ---- Many fish are being caught slabbing 25 feet of water early in the morning near Roger's park and up around Horseshoe Bend in 30 feet of water. Some days limits are the rule and other days a half dozen is a good day.
Catfish ---Many cats are being caught on Sonny's sticky bait in 6-10 feet of water. Near limits are the rule lately, but again some days 3-4 are a good catch.
Small & Large mouth bass -- Fish shallow early and deeper later is about all I can say. Senkos and tubes are producing the best.
The Eagles club is hosting a White bass tourney this Saturday. Sign up here or at the Eagles Friday night at 6:00 p.m. Cost is $30 per 2 man team. Hours are from 6a.m. - 3p.m..

Dave and Steve from Texas with Walleye taken 8/8/09.
Water temp = 76 degrees in main lake, 65 degrees up the river arms. Main lake is lightly stained --- river arms heavily stained.
Both the Canadian and Ute Creek drainage's are running water into the lake at a good pace. Went Cat fishing yesterday up the Ute and there was close to a 20 MPH current at the bridge. The lake is about 4 feet from full.
Walleye ---- Still on a good bite. Use minnows/crawlers in 30 feet of water near the channel drop offs or troll 15-20 feet of water over heavy brush.
White bass -- slab in 30 feet of water or use minnows in 30-40 feet. Top water cranks when they are boiling. Excellent to good fishing.
Small mouth and Large mouth bass --- top water cranks early in the morning and then work 20 foot deep points with plastics or live bait. The bite is still good.
Catfish -- Good to excellent fishing using Sonny's Sticky bait in 4-6 feet of water near or in the brush.
Overall, the fishing pressure the last week or two has been very light, but the fishing is still pretty good if you can get out.
The local Eagles Lodge #3526 is hosting their 1st Annual White Bass Open on August 29th. Entry fee = $30.00 per two person team. Contact the Tackle Box or Jeff Bailey (575-799-1443) from the Eagles for more info.

August 4th,2009

Dalton and Quintin Ellis from Texas with some quality Walleye taken 8/1/09.

Mark Cambell with some large Whites caught slabbing in 30 feet of water on 7/31/09.
Water temp = 78 degrees, main lake clear / upper ends quite murky.
The fishing is remaining pretty good for all species except for the Crappie. My trip on 8/1/09 yielded some nice Wallys all caught in 14-18 feet of water trolling Reef Runners and Wally divers ---still over heavy brush. I just can't stop fishing the brush ---it continues to be the most productive for me. I have seen some 4-5 pounders caught in deeper water near the channel, but not nearly the quantity.
Whites are being caught in good numbers up the Ute Creek arm in the coves. Try the Rogers Park area with top water cranks when the boils start and get ready for some action. Slabbing is also starting to pick up Whites straight west of the marina in 30 feet of water near the cliffs.
Channel cats continue to be caught up both arms in 6-20 feet of water using stink baits. Fish near some brush and move around until you find them. With the recent run-off coming in, it is making them feed.
Smallmouth being caught in good numbers --bigger ones in 20 feet of water and smaller ones in 10-15 feet. Use anything from crank baits to live bait to hammer some. Top water baits early working well on Large mouth -- allot of 2 pounders being whacked.
