6/22/10

3 limits of Walleye taken on Bombers in 10-18 feet of water on 6/21/10

Debbie Pate and friend Eddie with a nice batch of fish caught on 6/12/10.
Water temp = 75 degrees, main lake lightly stained, river arms moderately stained. The last few weeks have been around 100 degrees every day ---HOT. The fishing is holding its own. I have been on the water quite a bit the last week. Some days we are getting limits of Walleye, then the next day we struggle to get 3 or 4 of them. It seems like they are feeding every other day.
Walleye---Good to Excellent---Some days its great fishing, then not so good the next day. Troll light colored crank baits over brush in 10-20 feet of water. Drifting minnows around 15-20 feet points is also producing some fish. Slabbing in 40 feet of water is another method that is working.
Crappie--Poor---You catch one here and there, but they are not on a great bite.
Catfish--Good to Excellent--- Fish Sonny's stink bait in 4-8 feet of water near brush in the back of almost any cove. Chicken liver off of the dam will also catch a couple.
White bass--Poor-to fair-- We are catching a few every time out, but not that many. I would fish around the Ranch House if you are wanting to catch a few.
Small & Large mouth bass--Fair to Good--We have been catching a few smallies while fishing for Walleye. Top water early in the morning, spinner baits and whacky rigged plastics the rest of the day.
A word of advice ---get on the water early !!!!!!!

6-9-10

Haley and mom Sharon from Texas with limits of Walleye caught 6-9-10. We caught over 20 Walleye while trolling. Many 10-12 inchers, but we managed 10 keepers in 4 hours of fishing.

6-7-10

Mr. &Mrs. Deleon with daughter Arelli with a nice catfish caught from shore last week.

Luke Conley with Walleye and Whites taken 6/6/10. Most fish were caught on minnows and crawlers in 10-20 feet of water.

Arelli Deleon ---She was a very happy camper----this is what it is all about!!!!!

Water temp = 70 degrees, main lake clear, river arms slightly stained.
It seems that we have had a very short spring this year. We have been pushing 100 degrees the last week and it is expected to be the same the next week. You want to get out early. The bite seems to be pretty good in the heat of the day, but since my boat doesn't have air conditioning, I try to be off the lake by 1-2 p.m. Another note----don't forget bug repellent---the deer flies are starting to feed on humans while on the water. The fishing is good some days and excellent on others.
Crappie--Fair--Use minnows up either river arm. Some limits are coming in, but not very many. Keep moving from tree to tree if the bite is slow.
Walleye--Good/Excellent--One day we caught & released 28 Walleye while trolling, the next day we had to work to catch 6 of them. Thats why they call it fishing and not catching. Typically when we have stable weather like we have had, the fishing is much more constant day to day. Troll crank baits over brush in 10-20 feet of water has been producing for me. Crawlers and minnows fished near structure on the main points in 5-15 feet of water has also been producing.
Catfish--Good/Excellent--Cats are being caught in the many coves near 2-6 feet of water on stink baits. Either river arm will also produce fish. The best bite has been 6-10 am.
Whites--Fair--Many smaller ones are being caught trolling, but you will catch a few keepers.
Small and Large mouth bass--Fair--Currently on beds in shallow water. This past weekend the N.M. Bass Federation had a two day tourney with the winning weight around 18 pounds. Many fishermen did not have 5 fish to weigh at the end of the day. It makes me think that it was tough fishing.
