August 26th, 2010

Dale Hughs and Sheila Hall from Kermit, Tx. with a couple of Walleye along with White bass taken on 8/25/10.

Water Temp = 76 degrees, main lake clear, river arms stained.
We finally got a break from the heat yesterday and the forecast looks good for the next 5-6 days---mid to upper 80's. My guiding trip on the 25th was pretty good ---the Walleyes taken in the early afternoon and the whites were taken here and there until we hit a school of them in the late morning. We boated around 40 of them in less than 20 minutes ---you talk about some serious action!!!!! The water temp has dropped 3-4 degrees and the lake has risen a couple of feet due to a good rain last week.

Walleye--Fair--They are getting harder to boat, but I continue to get a few trolling over submerged trees in 20 feet of water. I will fish 15-20 minutes in one area and if nothing happens I move on. I will usually hit my spots a couple of times through out the trip and sooner or later we will catch a couple.
White bass--Good to Excellent--We are catching a few all over the lake, but when a school of them is found I switch from trolling to vertical jigging white "Swim Slabs" and commence to hammering them.
Small and Large mouth bass--Fair--I'm seeing more Large mouth being caught than Small mouth. Early morning top water over weeded flats. We have been catching a few smallies, but not of any size. There are quite a few dragon flys out on the water if that helps you any.
Catfish--Good to Excellent--Stink baits up the Ute is the ticket. With the recent rains, the fish are on a bite. There is a early morning bite in 2-8 feet of water. After 11:00 am, you might as well go home and fish in your bath tub for more action.

Ryan Gardner with our limit of Eyes caught 8/14/10.
Cole and dad John from Roswell, N.M. with fish taken 8/13/10.

Daniel and Tamara from Clovis, N.M. with a good catch taken 8/8/10.

A happy camper with a nice Large mouth and Walleye taken from the South shore on a spinner. 8/10/10.

Bruce and Steve from California with some fish taken on a tough day of fishing. 8/1/10.

Water temp = 79 degrees, main lake clear, river arms stained.
Fishing has been a bit tougher lately, but they can still be caught. As you can see from the pictures, some days are more fishing than catching --but every day is a new day.
Walleye--Fair--It takes patients, but we are still catching them trolling in 20 feet of water over brush. I have heard of some being caught quite shallow early in the morning by throwing Senkos. I have slabbed a couple of times lately, but not much luck.
Large and Small mouth bass--Fair--Some Large mouth being caught near reeds using Senkos and spinner baits, but the best bite is the Small mouth using Senkos in the 10 foot deep weed beds. Quite a few smaller fish can be caught this way along with occasional 16 incher.
White bass--Fair--This is a hit or miss at this time. Some days are excellent and some days are poor. I have not seen many schools feeding the last week or so, but I have heard of some occasional limits when they do find them.
Catfish--Fair--My cat fishing buddies are reporting 4-6 fish on an outing. Use stink baits in 4-8 feet of water.
Bluegill--Good--fish poppers or crawlers on a bobber near reeds to whack a few.
Crappie--What are they???
